The Social Worker at the Rehabilitation & Pain Management Unit is primarily responsible for:

  • Conducting social history assessments and documenting the needs and requests of patients requiring rehabilitation services.

  • Providing counseling to patients experiencing chronic pain (pain management, anxiety, stress) and offering emotional and psychological support.

  • Understanding and evaluating the patient’s values, beliefs, and emotions through their social history to better comprehend how these factors influence pain perception and management.

  • Collaborating with patients to identify coping strategies and mechanisms that help minimize the impact of pain on their lives and the lives of those around them.

  • Exploring the interrelation of biological, psychological, cultural, spiritual, social, economic, and familial factors of living with pain to help improve quality of life.

  • Assisting patients in recognizing their strengths, capabilities, and self-control in the face of chronic pain.

  • Teaching and training patients in coping skills and strategies such as relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, and goal setting to better manage pain in daily life.

  • Coordinating with public services, organizations, and support networks to address patients’ social welfare needs.

  • Informing patients about social welfare and disability benefits, and assisting with the procedures related to KE.P.A. (Disability Certification Centers).

  • Providing home-based social work services when needed, depending on the specific requirements of each patient.
